THE CLEVERLY BROTHERS

Radstock n’ Roll? Country music at it’s cruellest? Farntarstic?

However you describe the music of Radstock’s premier inbreds, the Cleverly Brothers, you’re not even halfway there. Not even 4/8ths.

Identical twin brothers Don (56) and Phil (58) tell it like it is, down on the ‘Twelve Toe Estate’. Their hilarious send ups of all things tacky, sleazy and dodgy has punters heading home with tears of laughter and/or a police caution.

Attending a Cleverly Brothers gig can bring you many benefits and, during the show, the ‘Clevs’ will tell you how to fraudulently claim them all!

You also get to learn the Club Foot cider dance, discover how to break open slot machines with a crowbar and get the chance to moo like a chicken.

FARNTARSTIC!

Through a host of hilarious songs like ‘Boy Racers’, ‘Builder Man’ ‘Budgie’ and ‘Darts’ you get to meet the rest of the ‘baler-trash’ Cleverly family; Trevorly, Beverly, Heatherly, Deverly, Keverly, Jefferly and Malcolm, plus all those other distant relatives who keep getting closer.

The Cleverly Brothers are to music and comedy what Kentucky Fried Chicken, shell suits, tattoos and dodgy motors are to the rest of us.

FARNTARSTIC!

LISTEN TO A SONG - Builder Man

BBC review of the MGP production of ‘The Radstock Country Music Awards’ at the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival:

The Merv Grist Players (as the Cleverly Family) took Henry’s Stage 2 by storm. With their quirky blend of humour, musicality and a fondness for the area of Radstock, and environs and it’s people, they certainly made a huge impact on a sleepy, storm-worn audience. Blink and you’d have missed it, but it certainly happened.

Grown men and women were on their feet becoming zombies like extras from some Thriller video.

Great to see, great to listen to, the performers probably didn’t realise how prophetic their song lyrics, ‘I’m too drunk to remember what it is I can’t forget’ might have been for some of the audience.
